Jim Oliver will be talking about his Garmin GSP device, so if you have contemplated buying one for your car, this is the time to find out all about the benefits of owning one - a GPS device not the car! Jim is an excellent speaker so this should be another first class evening. Nathan Mercer from Microsoft will be discussing Windows 8 at the December meeting. While Arthur Harris presented an evening on the new operating system a few months ago, it was a fairly early beta version and it is anticipated that a lot of work has been done in the interim period tidying it up for its eventual release. Is it better than Windows 7? Come along on December 19 and find out. Remember that it's the Christmas party as well.

Arthur Harris will discuss a Python program he has written, which will catalogue his video collection and determine which ones have been viewed. Arthur has put a lot of work into writing this program and it is of excellent quality. In addition, Jim Oliver has recently published a book on an undisclosed subject - although one assumes it is computer-related - and will have a few copies available at the meeting. Do come along and support fellow members who put a lot of time and effort into preparing these demonstrations. Remember, it starts at 7:30 pm at St Giles this Wednesday.

Wgtn meeting, Wed 18 April 2012

Members may remember Ken Chandler addressing a meeting at St Giles, where he discussed Dragon Naturally Speaking (version 9, if memory serves me correctly), a utility for those with RSI or those who have difficulty in typing and where commands are issued or documentation inputted by speaking.

Ken has agreed to discuss the latest version of DNS, which he considers to be a considerable advance over earlier versions, at this month's meeting at St Giles.

For those with wrist problems or typing difficulties generally -- or simply an interest in what the software has to offer -- don't miss this meeting!

LATE DATE CHANGE: Hutt Meeting for April 2012

Please note that, because the official meeting date coincides with Easter Monday, the meeting has been postponed for a week and will now held on Monday 16 April.

The topic will remain unchanged; that is, Arthur Harris will be giving a demonstration on Windows 8.

Hutt meeting, Mon 9 April 2012

Arthur will demonstrate a beta version of Windows 8, officially due out at the end of the year. This is essentially a repeat performance of the one he gave at St Giles at the last Wellington meeting.

If you missed that meeting and are interested in seeing what differences exist between this new operating system and Windows 7 the meeting is at the Moera Community House commencing at 7:30 pm.

Have them solved by our panel of experts (that usually means Roger and Richard) when you come along to the meeting.
