Wgtn meeting, Wed 25 Nov 2020

 Due to the inclement weather last week, it was decided to postpone the meeting, so Robin will talk about OBS Studio this Wednesday, via ZOOM.

I hope to see as many members as possible at the meeting, either in person or via ZOOM. As always, it will be held at Ron Oliver's, 39 Washington Avenue, Brooklyn, commencing at 7:30 pm.

For this month's meeting, Robin Hinde has kindly agreed to talk about OBS (Open Broadcaster Software) Studio: a free and open source software suite for recording and live streaming. It provides real-time source and device capture, scene composition, encoding, recording and broadcasting. Those of you who regularly attend the club's Monday ZOOM meetings will have seen Robin seemingly sitting or standing in an outdoor scene that also includes a lighthouse or a bicycle behind him - all courtesy of OBS. It is remarkably versatile software and Robin will explain its various functions and how to get the best out of it. As he lives out at Eastbourne, he will take part in the meeting via ZOOM.

Do join the meeting either via ZOOM or in person for what promises to be a fascinating evening. As always, the meeting begins at 7:30 pm at Ron Oliver's home, 39 Washington Avenue, Brooklyn.

We've finally managed to arrange the annual general meeting for this month - postponed since July - and if you are unable, or unwilling,  to come to the meeting in person you can attend via ZOOM conferencing. The log-on details are in Richard's e-mail that contained the latest MegaByte newsletter as an attachment.

There is no specific presenetation this month so the rest of the meeting will be used to discuss members' computer issues - another reason for attending if you are experiencing problems with your PC or software.

As usual, the meeting will be held at Ron Oliver's, 39 Washington Avenue, Brooklyn, commencing at 7:30 pm. I hope to see you there.

 Apologies for the very late notice which was the result of a couple of factors: firstly, there was some doubt as to whether a meeting of any sort would be held, with the COVID-19 lock-down at level 2 and, if that did go ahead, whether we would meet at Ron Oliver's or attempt to communicate via ZOOM. At first, it was decided we would meet at Brooklyn but Ron takes these lock-downs very seriously so after further consideration, the following meeting arrangement will now occur.

The proposed AGM- already postponed from July - is now scheduled for September and so a normal meeting will be presented tonight and it will be via the ZOOM conferencing software. Roger Currier will preside over the meeting from his home in Peka Peka. By now, you should have received notification in the MegaByte about this, so if you wish to join the meeting you will need to download the ZOOM software - if you haven't already done so -  and have a web-cam or other form of suitable camera, complete with microphone,  set up and ready to take part in the meeting.

 The committee is hopeful that level one will have returned by the time of the September meeting

This is the first monthly meeting since the one in March and it's nice to be back to some degree of normality
Roger is going to discuss a program called Autoruns, which allows for organisation of programs when they run at start-up. It is apparently very comprehensive and a considerable number of options are available.
This could be very useful if you are having problems while booting up your computer so come along to the meeting and find out what it's all about.
There is now an alternative way of attending these monthly meetings. All members should have received an email from the MegaByte editor Richard Elam on the 13th containing a postscript (PS) at the bottom where there are two links: these relate to the two ZOOM meeting log-ins required to attend the meeting using the  ZOOM conferencing tool. Click on the first link to join the meeting at 7:30 pm. (The reason for two links is that for free usage of ZOOM, the maximum amount of time allowed for conferencing is three-quarters of an hour - too short for the full meeting. There will be a five minute gap at the end of the first part so you will need to click on the second link if you wish to continue participating). Check to see that both your web cam and microphone are plugged in, and working before you join the meeting. To check the camera, go into the 'Accounts' section in 'Settings' and under "Your Info" a little way down the page you will see 'Create A Picture" and, under that, "Camera". Click on the camera and a small window should open and after a short time your image should appear. If it doesn't your camera is either not set up or not plugged in. To check the microphone, click on "Setting" again, then "System", then "Sound".  On the right half of the latter's page.you should see "Input" and a link 'Change Sound Devices'. This will direct you to another page where you should see 'Microphone'. Double click on that and an 'Enable' option should appear just below it. Click on that. Now return to the previous page and look at the 'Test your microphone' option. When you talk you should see a blue progress bar moving right and left as the sound level changes. If that is occurring, all is well. You are now ready to join the meeting. The microphone level can be cnanged in ZOOM if it is too soft or loud.
For others travelling to Brooklyn, as always the meeting is at Ron Oliver's. 39 Washington Avenue for a 7:30 pm start in the basement.

For this month's meeting, it was decided to have a Q & A "brain storming" session, as it has been a while since the previous one.
This is your opportunity to come along and have that niggling computer problem sorted out by the experts.
As always, the meeting will be held in Ron Oliver's basement, at 39 Washington Avenue, Brooklyn, starting at 7:30pm. I hope to see you there.

Welcome to another year of monthly meetings, presented for your enjoyment.

For the first meeting of the year, Roger is going to talk about Ashampoo "Snap" - a screen capture program that he greatly admires. Ashampoo software is very highly regarded  in some quarters so do try to attend the meeting and find out why so many people have such a high opinion of it.
