Where has  2016 gone! It's party time again and to accompany Roger's demonstration of Android games and other utilities, join us for nibbles, cake and drinks for the final meeting of the year. The meeting will be in the basement at Ron Oliver's house, 39 Washington Avenue, Brooklyn and timed for a 7:30 pm start.

Richard will try to make your computing life easier by demonstrating how to use shortcuts and quick tips when working with Windows operating systems and associated applications.

One of the topics for last month's meeting was supposed to be online shopping. However, Arthur's fascinating demonstration of his modular oscilloscope ended up occupying the entire meeting, so this month Roger will discuss buying online and what to be aware of - things which may surprise you.

Do come along to the meeting and share your own online purchasing experiences - good or bad - with other members.

Wgtn meeting, Wed 21 Sept 2016

This coming Wednesday meeting promises to be rather different from usual. Arthur Harris is going to bring along and demonstrate 'an oscilloscope with a difference'. This isn't a big box with a built-in screen for displaying waveforms of different kinds but a small box that connects to a computer and allows waveforms to be displayed up to the size of the monitor. It also has a number of other features normally seen only on expensive  instruments. In addition, it incorporates a waveform generator which can be fed into electronic devices for checking functionality. The writer has a 70 watt class-D stereo amplifier that will be put to the test by feeding it with both sine waves and square waves at different frequencies to check out characteristics like stability. Arthur will also use it for checking out some of his own devices.
The evening will also likely include a discussion on internet shopping: what it entails, real costs and the risks involved.

This meeting is going to be about Cloud Computing and, despite what might seem to be a topic with which we are all familiar, there may be some misunderstanding about exactly what it is.
Roger will attempt to clarify the situation for us - hopefully, with assistance from others - so, as always, the meeting will be in the basement room at Ron Oliver's, 39 Washington Avenue, Brooklyn; starting time 7:30 pm. .

It's that time of year  again. Yes, it's the Annual General Meeting - time for you to come along and let the committee know just what you think of the club and whether it is satisfying your computer needs. If you don't think it is, why not consider joining the committee so you can help to guide the club's future activities?
After the AGM business is done and dusted, there will be a demonstration on Skype with the view of allowing members who don't normally attend meetings to participate via a video/audio link. This month's meeting is all about backing up data; whether that be photos, correspondence, videos, music, programs you've written or anything else you value highly. Do you know all the possible ways to back up your data and are you sure you're using the best medium for the task? Maybe you're after really long-term reliability?

This meeting is going to be all about Windows 10. If you are using it, what do you think of it? Do you love it, or do you hate it? If you have reservations, what would you like to see improved?

Come along to the meeting and give your opinions about it. You may have discovered something that no other member knows about that could prove to be most interesting and informative.

This will be a meeting with a rather unusual topic; allowing viruses to infect a computer and then finding a way to eradicate them before they do any harm.

Roger and Arthur will take up the challenge at the next meeting at Ron Oliver's. That's at 39 Washington Avenue, Brooklyn, commencing at 7:30 pm

If your computer has been pestered by viruses, now is the time to find out what to do about it by letting the experts show you. I hope to see you at Ron's on Wednesday evening.

This meeting is going to be about displaying the programming efforts of two committee members. Arthur Harris will demonstrate some of his Python programs, while John Marchington will show some of his written in Visual Basic 6.0. The evening promises to be a lot of fun - and perhaps surprises - so don't forget that the meetings now take place in the basement at Ron Oliver's home at 39 Washington Avenue, in Brooklyn, beginning at 7:30 pm.

Where did January go? Greetings, and welcome to a new year of (hopefully) interesting monthly meetings at 39 Washington Avenue, Brooklyn.

For the first meeting of the year, Roger is going to discuss the selection of suitable passwords when websites require them and how to make them as safe as possible. This is vitally important if one values security - and who doesn't?
